About Us

We are a group of people who enjoy meeting to discover more about railways. We have a varied programme of meetings on the first and third Thursday of each month from late September until early May. We also put on a Show for the public every year. Read more...

NRS WINTER/SPRING MEETINGS 2021
Until we can resume our indoor meetings we are running online meetings using Zoom. Meetings start at 19.30 and you can join from 19.15. Details will be emailed to NRS members a few days beforehand.

4th March - 'Exploring the Waverley Route' with Chris Mitchell. Look out for an article by Chris on the Waverley Route in the next NRS Newsletter due to be published on 4th February.

18th March '- South of the River: London’s Cradle of Power – The Story of Greenwich, Woolwich and Deptford' by Jeremy Batch. 

1st April - Building a replica of GER’s 789 locomotive - A presentation by the Holden F5 Locomotive Trust

15th April - An illustrated talk by Humphrey Platts, who is involved with the Tracks Through Grantham website. Humphrey will show his pre-1948 photos from all four companies and look at the work of ex-GCR A5 tank engines and also the ‘Scottish’ ex-GNR K2 2-6-0s.

6th May - Details to be confirmed.

15th May - As we will not be able to hold our annual show day this year, we are hoping to run a virtual show from 14.00 - 16.30. Details on p.6 of the Jan/Feb 2021 Newsletter

20th May​ - The Cambridge Resignalling Project - A presentation by Network Rail.

NRS Newsletter - January-February issue published
Our Newsletter is published six times a year and all members receive a printed copy. Digital copies can be viewed online. Go to the Newsletter page for details.
4th February - The latest Newsletter has been published and has been posted to members. It will be available online shortly.

Norfolk Transport Group 2021
In place of our indoor meetings we will run occasional Zoom meetings. NRS members and also NTG members who have given an email address to Mike Fordham will be sent joining details. If you would like to know more contact NRS Secretary.

25th February - 'Anything with engines, wings or wheels' Chris Eve delves into his photographic collection.

11th March - ‘The Last Steam on the Norfolk and Western Railway as recorded by O. Winston Link’ - Mike Fordham

25th March - ‘The Building of the Manchester Ship Canal’ – A presentation by The Daniel Adamson Preservation Society.
