In 1992, Ely station was closed over a May weekend for remodelling.
All trains from East Anglia to the Midlands and North started and terminated
at temporary platforms on the site of Chettisham station. From there buses
provided a connection to Ely or to Shippea Hill (pictured), which was the
terminus for a shuttle to and from Norwich. The Class 156 dmu has arrived
from Norwich, moved to the down line via the little-used crossover at the
up end of the station, and now awaits the next busloads from Chettisham.
