What is the Norfolk Railway Society?
It's a group of people who like railways, and who enjoy meeting to find
out yet more about railways.
We have a varied programme: at some meetings there is a speaker with
slides
or video; other meetings are informal, with short contributions from
members.
When do you meet?
From 7:30
pm until about 10 pm on the first and third Thursdays of the month,
from
late September until May. You are very welcome to come.
Where do you meet?
In the
Hall
of the United Reformed Church Hall,
Ipswich Road, Norwich
.
How much does it cost?
From January 2007 it is £17 per year - and that
includes a newsletter every
other month, plus refreshments at each meeting. The first two meetings
are
free: come and try us.
Are there any excursions?
In recent
years we have visited the Kent & East Sussex, Great Central, Mid
Hants, Bluebell, and Romney,
Hythe & Dymchurch railways, as well as local places of railway
interest.
Are you only concerned with Norfolk
Railways?
No:
we are worldwide in our interests - but many members have a special
interest
in East Anglia's railways.
Are you all ageing anoraks?
We find
railways keep us young. And we welcome young and old, male and female;
experts and amateurs. We're all pro-rail, but we're not a political
organisation.
Must I enthuse about 4-6-2s and Bo-Bos to be a full member?
No: we are
a surprisingly varied group of people. Some are steam enthusiasts;
some prefer diesels; others simply like rail travel and/or photography,
UK
or worldwide.
